Description
Introduction to Aegean Art discusses the art of the Bronze Age in the regions that would later be called Greece. It is written for students and the general public, including those with no previous background in the subject. It emphasizes the progression of ideas as illustrated visually in paintings, sculptures, architecture, pottery, metalwork, and many other media.
The Bronze Age towns and cities in the region of the Aegean Sea were able to profit from contact with the older and more sophisticated societies of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the rest of the eastern Mediterranean, but they developed artistic styles that were uniquely their own. The societies we call Minoan, Mycenaean, and Cycladic produced some very beautiful and extremely interesting art. Their legacy to modern times is briefly introduced in this volume.
